Jewish Women in America

Premieres on CUNY TV Monday September 20, 2004

Host Blanche Wiesen Cook Interviews notable Women about their Work and Heritage

Ronnie Gilbert, Amy Goodman, Ruth Gruber, Erica Jong, Ruth Messinger, Grace Paley, Letty Cottin Pogrebin, and Gloria Steinem are among the distinguished guests interviewed in the premiere season of CUNY TV’s (Ch. 75) newest public affairs series, Jewish Women in America.

Premiering Monday, September 20, 2004 as part of the station’s comprehensive celebration of the 350th anniversary of Jewish life in America, the new series of half-hour interviews is hosted by CUNY Distinguished Professor Blanche Wiesen Cook, author of the prize-winning multi-volume biography of Eleanor Roosevelt.

Jewish Women in America will air Mondays at 8:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., and Sundays at 12:30 p.m.

Jewish Women in America is made possible by a grant from the Jewish Women's Foundation of New York. JWFNY's support also will allow the series to reach Jewish women and girls throughout the U.S. through distribution to Jewish community and educational centers via CUNY TV's Educational Outreach Initiative.

“The nearly 300 members of the Jewish Women’s Foundation of New York are proud to enable CUNY TV to shine a spotlight not only on the important contributions of Jewish women to American society, but how their Jewish values and faith motivated them,” said Betsy Miller Landis, president, JWFNY.

“It has been a privilege and an honor to interview these remarkable women,” said host Blanche Wiesen Cook.  “Because of their splendid and various works, their lives of courage and vision, a theme of justice and hope has emerged for this series on Jewish women in America.”
