This edition: Black Lives Matter with Opal Tometi

Episode Details

Original tape date: March 29, 2017.

First aired: April 5, 2017.

After the death of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of George Zimmerman in 2012, Black Lives Matter was born. Those three words quickly went from what many thought was a mere social media hashtag, to a full on social justice movement that echos across continents.

Opal Tometi, one of the founders of Black Lives Matter, joins Carol Jenkins in this episode to discuss where the movement is in the era of Trump's presidency and the uprising of women around the world via the Women's March.

Tometi, who is also the Executive Director of Black Alliance for Just Immigration, also talks about immigration issues in America and how they've hit close to home.
