Original tape date: October 22, 2012.
First aired: October 24, 2012.
Health care and education are high on the list of women’s priorities this election season, according to the Pew Research Center. Joining us to discuss the importance of reproductive rights, the president of NARAL Pro-Choice New York, Andrea Miller. Naral Pro-Choice fights for birth control, sex education, healthy pregnancies, and the right to choose an abortion. Journalist Akiba solomon joins in, as well. Akiba writes the blog “Gender Matters” at Colorlines.com and is co-editor of the essay collection: Naked: Black Women Bare All About Their Skin, Lips, Hips and Other Parts.
Next up, gun control. Mayors lobby for it, police, do too. But, how come it’s political suicide to raise the topic? Joining us via Skype from Arlignton, VA, Josh Horwitz. Josh is president of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence.
Then, we’ll examine what has become better known as “The Test”, the entrance exam for New York’s elite high schools. Does it exclude the best and brightest minority kids? Helping us answer that question NAACP Legal Defense Fund's Damon Hewitt and attorney Renée Eubanks, on behalf of the Diversity Initiative organized by Stuyvesant High School alumni.
Finally, we’ll find out how to text like a NAVY SEAL. It’s a controversial app to encrypt your digital life so big brother can’t snoop on you. Here to talk about the app, is a Silent Circle co-founder and CEO, Mike Janke.
And, to close the show, we’ll ask for YOUR help in crowd-sourcing ATM fees along with the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism's NY City News Service.
