Host Michael Stoler tells us that each year, more than 300,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer, and that each year, about 40,000 die of the disease. Chair of the Department of Urology at NYU Langone Medical Center, Dr. Herbert Lepor is a world renowned leader in the treatment of prostate cancer. Born in Brooklyn, Dr. Lepor tells of his family's escape from Russia to Rumania and finally to the United States. Dr. Lepor is well-known as the co-author of the paper describing surgery to remove the cancer portion of the prostate without affecting surrounding tissue. This technique is effective and helps preserve quality of life.
