This edition: The Life of Lynn Brooks

Episode Details

Original tape date: October 18, 2012.

First aired: December 10, 2012.

Lynn Brooks talks about a small but special piece of paper that she cherishes: her great grandfather's citizenship paper, dating before the Civil War. Her father was a New York trial lawyer and she grew up in the city. As a child, Lynn remembers "moving day," when every two years, in early October, renters moved to another apartment, because rent was cheaper or landlords offered perks. After a successful career in academia and in non-profits, and at age 59, Lynn Brooks creates and then finds funding for the "Big Apple Greeter" aiming to give New York a great big "small town" feeling. Volunteer "Greeters" continue to flock to the project.
