Les Yeux Noirs
Over two decades ago violin playing brothers Eric and Olivier Slabiak created the band Les Yeux Noirs as a musical crossroads of Tzigane and Yiddish music. They carry on the legacy of these popular musical styles while inventing a new form. CANAPE visits with the musicians at Drom in the East Village.
Rendez Vous with French Cinema
This year marked the 20th anniversary of Rendezvous with French Cinema at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Arthur Rimbaud in Aden
“The poet makes himself a seer by a long, prodigious, and rational disordering of all the senses.” So wrote the youthful 19th century French poet Arthur Rimbaud. But later in his brief life he embarked on a colonial journey to Africa and the Mid East. CANAPE explores Rimbaud’s life in Aden, Yemen in the 1870s as presented in a recent exhibit in Paris.
