Host, Jerry Carlson, professor of film studies at The City College of the City University of New York, discusses "The Hitch-Hiker" with Foster Hirsch, film professor at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. Hirsch and Carlson examine what Carlson calls the film's "simple plot" and "rich and interesting visual style," and they talk at-length about how the film characterizes film noir. They also discuss Ida Lupino, the film's director, and her career transition from actress to director.
