Original tape date: March 28, 2006.
The two sisters discuss what it means to identify oneself as a “Nuyorican” - a New Yorker of Puerto Rican descent, or a Puerto Rican who has lived most of his or her life in New York. Dr. Anselmo addresses living between two worlds and feeling like an outsider when her family returned to Puerto Rico. Dr. Rubal-Lopez describes how the book “On Becoming Nuyorican” came to be, as well as the difficulties both sisters face as Puerto Rican women in the academic world.
