Brian Lehrer Live - New York City ParksTweet
Original tape date: June 28, 2006.
Former city parks commissioner Henry Stern joins Brian Lehrer to discuss summer in New York City. Some mentioned topics included the Green Streets program Stern created, city golf courses, beaches, and the multitude of parks throughout the five boroughs.
Leslie Shultz from the Celebrate Brooklyn and Bill Schreiber from the River to River Festival also join Brian Lehrer to share the history behind their free summer arts festivals. Celebrate Brooklyn was created in 1979 to turn around the depressed state of Prospect Park, while the River to River Festival was created after the attacks on 9/11 to bring people back to the shops and restaurants of lower Manhattan.
