This edition: Wandering to Beijing for Study
(China). In today’s industrialized China, the key to business success is mastery of the English language. Or at least Li Zhaoyang thought so. This former village teacher’s extremely limited resources did nothing to curb his outsized ambition for his 10-year-old son. He dragged the boy to Beijing in the vague hope of finding a teacher to teach him English. . .
Their cramped and mocked existence in Beijing was moderated only by Li’s unrealistic hopes – unrealistic until suddenly, like an angel from nowhere, there appeared a middle aged American woman, come to China to teach English. But the story takes an unexpected turn when the father’s ambitions outstrip his ability to deliver.
The documentary was first broadcast on cable TV in Beijing.
