This edition: Railroad of Hope

Every August and September several thousand agricultural workers leave Sichuan by train to make the long journey – three days and two nights – to the cotton fields of Xinjiang to help with the harvest. For most of these simple peasants it is the first time outside their native village. And their very first ride on a train.
Filmmaker Ning Ying has captured the highly articulate and frequently engaging voices of a segment of Chinese society rarely heard inside much less outside that rapidly industrializing country.
