Following the English Renaissance a new kind of poet emerges, the poet hero who delves deeply into the power of nature and love for their literary inspirations. The Age of Dryden begins, and Alexander Pope authors The Rape of the Lock. Dr. Johnson completes a dictionary of the English language. Robert Burns writes his poems chiefly in the Scottish dialect. Lord Byron pens Don Juan, and Wordsworth's spiritual autobiography ends. Alfred Lord Tennyson is made Poet Laureate of England.
