This edition: Swine Flu Siege

Episode Details

Original tape date: May 6, 2009.

On this edition of Independent Sources we speak with a Mexican reporter who has been covering the increasingly xenophobic comments made against Mexican immigrants in the wake of the swine flu outbreak. We talk about a local election picking up steam in Flushing, where Asian Americans are vying to maintain an Asian presence in the seat currently held by John Liu. Then we look at some of issues raised by the ethnic media when they had a chance to question labor and immigration experts in light of recent immigration reform proposals put forth by the two major labor federations.
