First on ITALICS, we’ll take you to An Evening with Maria Montessori, with Erica Moretti and Dr. Suzanne Stewart-Steinberg both of Brown University, held at the John D Calandra Italian American Institute/CUNY. Both women have dedicated their years research on Dr. Montessori, her “Method”, and brought true insight into her life, its events and her vast and singular influence in education to this very day. Dr. Maria Montessori’s Image graces this year’s official Italian Heritage and Culture Month Poster, and was chosen by the IHCM Committee because of her great influence on education and humanity.
Next ITALICS takes you to The Italian Welfare League’s 90th Annual Gala Luncheon. This Year the League honored Buddy and Mary Valastro, The Cake Boss and His Mother, the REAL Cake Boss. The Gala Luncheon was held at the historic St. Regis Hotel in Manhattan recently, and helped the League to raise well-needed monies during in these times of economic crisis for the continuance of all of their charitable endeavors. This venerable organization has been providing various forms of social aid to families and children in need in the Greater New York City region, since the era before social assistance was provided by the federal government to individual families for any need.
