This special edition of ITALICS is dedicated entirely to the National Italian American Foundation's 36th Annual Weekend Conference and Gala Awards Dinner. We'll take you to The Hilton Hotel in Washington DC where over 2,500 NIAF Members and Press convened to celebrate both Italian Heritage and Culture Month and the 150th Unification of the Republic of Italy.
The NIAF Gala Dinner is one of the most celebrated Annual events in the Italian American Community, and attracts many of the United States', and Italy's, most Prestigious, Influential and Celebrated people.
CNBC Correspondent Maria Bartiromo acted as the evenings Mistress of Ceremonies, and the star studded Dias included the Hon. Nancy Pelosi, Minority Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Homeland Security Secretary Hon. Janet Napolitano, Baseball Star Mike Piazza, Fabio, Entertainer Frankie Avalon, Ambassador From Italy Hon. Giulio Terzi di Sant'Agata and Italian MP Hon. Amato Berardi among so any other luminaries from all fields of Endeavor.
The Highlight of the Weekend Conference's many events was President Barack Obama's Keynote Address Saturday Evening, to the formally attired international Audience and Press Representatives during the Gala Awards Dinner. The eight people honored by NIAF for their individual achievements and contributions that evening included: NIAF Chairman Emeritus Hon. Frank J. Guarini, Former Congressman, Legendary Songwriter & Rock N Roll Hall of Famer as "Dion and the Belmonts", Dion DiMucci, Frank G. Mancuso,Sr.. Chairman & CEO of Paramount Pictures and MGM Studios, The Hon. Capri Cafaro, Ohio State Senator, Italian Businessmen Claudio Bozzo, Paolo Scudieri, the Hon. Santo Versace, and Italian Industrialist Emma Marcegaglia.
The NIAF Annual Weekend Conference and Gala Awards Dinner takes place over three days, Friday morning through Sunday Afternoon and is comprised of Workshops, Panels, Executive Meetings, Charity Auctions and includes the Expo Italia, which features Products, Projects and Services from both Italy and the US.
