Episode Details

Original tape date: October 21, 2010.

We begin this episode with a tribute to the master Omar Rayo, who recently passed away. Patricio Lerzundi interviewed the Colombian painter a few months before his death in his Upper East Side apartment. He created a unique style with his paintings, drawings and sculptures, and his geometrical labyrinths gained recognition worldwide. His works are part of the permanent collection of nearly 200 museum and private collections.

Later on, we go to the East Village, to the Danspace creative center, where Cuban dancer and choreographer Judith Sánchez Ruiz presents her latest work: a piece combining choreography, improvisation and autobiographical writings. She will tell us about her beginnings in Cuba and her almost ten years in New York, where she's regarded as one of the most renowned dance professionals of 2010.

Finally, we meet Radio Jarocho, a group of musicians and dancers who have devoted themselves to recreating in this city the tradition of the fandangos -parties held around a dancing board where the sounds of the “zapateado” and the “jaranas” take us to the South of Veracruz, in Mexico.
