This edition: Season 13/Episode #12: Lola Jiménez, Michelle Manzanales, Malpaso, Maury

We begin this episode at NYU's King Juan Carlos of Spain Center. Carmen Boullosa interviews María Dolores Jiménez-Blanco, renown art historian and Spanish author who's been conducting an extensive study on the relationship between art and politics in the 20th century.

Then, we'll see two visions of contemporary dance. In Midtown, we enjoy the world premiere of Michelle Manzanales' "Con Brazos Abiertos". This piece is a personal journey that speaks of her Mexican-American heritage and is part of the new season at Ballet Hispánico, which on this occasion is focused on works by women choreographers.

We continue at the Joyce Theater, where we speak with the members of Malpaso, a Cuban dance troupe. They tell us about their beginnings and what it means to be on tour in the United States during these changing political times.

We conclude with the first episode of "This Is The Only Place I Know," dedicated to the life, dreams and challenges of Latino youth in the Big Apple. On this occasion, it's Maury's story, a journalism student who reflects on DACA and the uncertainty suffered by thousands of young people and their families.

Iniciamos este episodio en Midtown, disfrutando el estreno mundial de Con Brazos Abiertos de Michelle Manzanales. Esta obra es un viaje personal que habla de su herencia mexicana-americana y hace parte de la nueva temprada de la compania de danza Ballet Hispánico, que en esta ocasión está enfoca en montajes de mujeres coreógrafas.

Y continuando con danza, en el Joyce Theater hablamos con los integrantes de Malpaso, la compañía cubana de danza contemporánea. Ellos nos hablan sobre sus orígenes y lo que significa estar de gira en Estados Unidos durante estos tiempos de cambios políticos.

Luego, en el Centro Rey Juan Carlos de España de NYU, Carmen Boullosa entrevista a Maria Dolores Jiménez-Blanco, reconocida historiadora del arte y escritora española quien ha investigado extensivamente sobre la relación del arte y la política en el siglo 20

Y terminamos con el primer segmento de docu-ficción, “Este es el único lugar que conozco” dedicado a las vidas, los sueños y desafios de jovenes latinos en la gran manzana. En esta ocasión se trata de la historia de Maury, un estudiante de periodismo quien reflexiona sobre DACA y la incertidumbre por la que pasan miles de jóvenes y sus familias.
