Sheryl McCarthy introduces Ayana Mathis, and her debut novel, "The Twelve Tribes of Hattie" the story of Hattie Shepherd and her family, moving north during the Great Migration, trading Georgia for Philadelphia. Sheryl and Ayana talk about writing - poetry, memoir and finally, the novel. Ayana Mathis is a New Yorker, returning to Iowa to teach at the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
