The Women's Prison Association was founded in 1845. An offshoot of the Prison Association of New York, WPA is the nation's oldest service and advocacy organization, dedicated to women and their families involved in the criminal justice system. Georgia Lerner, WPA executive director, outlines a wide-range of programs aimed at women to achieve stability, on their way to becoming members of the community.
