The media landscape in the United States has been changing for a long time. But Donald Trump has taken us to places we have never been when it comes to news coverage, presidential politics, and the relations between important public figures and the press.

Now that we have cable television, the Internet, social media and many other forms of almost instant communication, it’s not even clear what constitutes the press – or what standards should be adhered to.

Bob Herbert tries to sort some of this out with his guest, a journalist, an historian, a distinguished professor of journalism at CUNY’s Brooklyn College, and the media columnist for The Nation magazine – Eric Alterman.
