More than one quarter of CUNY undergraduate students are of Hispanic descent, and come from just about every country in Latin America and the Caribbean. In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we’ll visit the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College, for more than 30 years the institute has been preserving and providing documentation about the communities and culture of Puerto Rican diaspora. A journey to El Salvador led to a design competition for architecture students at New York City College of Technology. Gabriela Zamorano, a PhD student from Mexico, is combining the visual arts and anthropology. A Hostos Community College program sends teachers and students to the Dominican Republic to study that country’s history and culture.
