Episode Details

Original tape date: September 16, 2016.

First aired: October 21, 2016.

Gerard Alessandrini, creator of the hit Off-Broadway revue “Forbidden Broadway,” presents performances from “Spamilton: An American Parody,” the send-up of the Broadway smash “Hamilton” featuring original cast members Juwan Crawley, Chris Anthony Giles, Nicholas Edwards, Dan Rosales and Nora Schell. Numbers include Alessandrini's take on Hamilton songs "The Schuyler Sisters," "What Did I Miss?" and more, accompanied by musical director Fred Barton.

Next up, Noël Coward scholar Sir Barry Day OBE discusses his adaptation of the never-produced Coward musical “Hoi Polloi,” which will be presented by Musicals Tonight! on Theatre Row in November. “Hoi Polloi” has music, lyrics and libretto by Coward and was the first show that the prolific entertainer wrote after V-E Day. Sir Noël abandoned the initial 1949 production when he sensed audiences would not find it sufficiently up-to-date. However, he subsequently used some of the songs in his later shows, “Ace of Clubs” and “Sail Away.” Day also looks back at life in the UK during World War II, which inspired some of Coward's most significant work.
