Virtually all of us, at one point or another, have relied on prescriptions drugs to make us feel better. We're usually so grateful for the relief that we give less thought to their potential side effects and safety issues. Yet the recent revelations about Vioxx and Celebrex, and now even over-the-counter pain-killers like Aleve, have pointed out serious flaws in the system. How do we balance the drug industry's need to make profits with the consumer's right to know the risks they're exposing themselves to when taking these drugs? And what expectations can we reasonably have of our government to protect us? Dr. Sidney Wolfe, Director of the Public Citizen's Health Research Group guides us to the answers to these questions
