This edition: Physical Well Being: Growing Minds
Original tape date: January 1, 1997.
“This series focuses on the individual child and how the teacher or caregiver can foster physical, emotional social, creative, and cognitive development.”
Describes two approaches to developing mental ability. In the conventional approach, teachers set up activities that help children develop specific mental skills, such as matching, grouping, and cause and effect. The program then offers some basic ways teachers can encourage young children to think creatively by using another approach, currently known as emergent curriculum. In this approach, considerable emphasis is put on the inquiry method as a means of stimulating thought.
