This edition: Elephant Seals
First aired: November 3, 2015.
The Antarctic whaling fleet was based in South Georgia. In a few decades, most of the seals and whales were transformed into oil and other products for industrialised nations. In the 1960s, the killing stopped and the animals have now returned. Scientists have been studying the elephant seal, which swims over vast distances and finds its prey a thousand metres down in the ocean.
